Taller de Tapas

It seems that it is much easier to get a table for 2 here. If you don’t want to wait, try coming before 10pm, it seems to fill up around that time. We came this time as a party of 3, and watched couple after couple get seated before us. We ended up waiting 1 hour and were given complimentary glasses of sparkling cava wine by the nice hostess (even after we smiled and said “oh, that’s ok, we’re fine” when she first asked if we wanted drinks).3 glasses of cold cava.

Andalucian style fried squid rings €5.50

They seem to be a little inconsistent, like many places, with their calamari. This time, the batter was thicker and softer.
Buñuelos de bacalao- salt cod fritters €2.50

Soft fried balls of cod, kind of like asian fish balls.
Scrambled eggs with salt cod and piquillo peppers €5.25

Yummy juicy scrambled eggs with bits of cod and peppers, just like the description. Like a breakfast omelette, comes with crusty bread.
Sizzling prawns cooked in a clay pot with garlic and chilli €9.80

Nice and garlicy, very buttery, soft shrimp. Butter and garlic go so well together!
Steamed mussels €4.90

These mussels were quite raw and slippery and very fishy ocean flavored. I had to squeeze a lot of that lemon on them! Unlucky night for mussels, as they aren’t always bad.
total+tax= €39.91 (dinner for 3)

No wait this time at 10pm! We were seated immediately, for the first time by the big windows in the front.Calamari, chickpeas sauteed with Iberican bacon, salad, and steamed mussels.

The mussels this time were better, especially when drizzled with the Vinaigre de Sauvignon (like a basalmic vinegar) on the table.
Fresh green salad €2.95

A simple plain salad of lettuce, onions, carrots, tomatoes, and olives.
Espinacas con Panceta Ibérica y Garbanzos- sautéed spinach, Iberian pancetta and chickpeas €3.50

Bits of soft spinach, chickpeas, and super crunchy crispy salty pieces of Iberian pancetta. Big intense bacon flavor jammed and concentrated into itty bitty pieces.
Salteado de setas de temporada con ajo y perejil- sauteed wild seasonal mushrooms with garlic and parsley €4.20

Big juicy garlic buttery mushrooms.
Crema Catalana- Catalan cream (creme brulee) €3.50

I really liked their crema catalana. The top was very burnt, crunchy, and sticky. Too burnt for some, but I liked it a lot! Underneath was thick creamy vanilla pudding, and on top, a crunchy almond biscuit.

The pan con tomate can be either soggy or crunchy. For mee what is important is: good bread, good tomato (and loot of them) and good olive oil (and salt). Them you mixt as you like and enjoy as soon as possible.

Hi! thanks for answering something I’ve been wondering about forever! So, I guess there is no standard or best pan con tomate? I love crunchy bread, so that’s what I prefer, but most restaurants I went to served the soggy chewy version.
