El Japonés

Visited: 11pm Wed. October 12, 2005
Green Tea €1.50 each
I wish tea was free everywhere!
Seaweed Salad with Wasabi Vinaigrette €4.85

Mostly lettuce, but with some seaweed here and there, topped with spicy wasabi and vinegar sauce.
Vegetable Miso-Shiru €4.05

Good miso soup with soft mushrooms.
Spicy Karai Yakisoba with Mixed Vegetables €4.95

Not spicy at all, and tasted fairly plain and oily like chinese fried noodles.
Mixed Vegetable Tempura €5.20

Zucchini, sweet potato, peppers, and eggplant. Ok batter, but also pretty oily, and a lot of filler veggies underneath like shredded up radish.
Mini Vegetable Rolls Yokohama, “chef’s recommendations” €3.95

The waitress recommended these, but by the time they arrived, I was already quite full. Extremely oily, but crispy and ok tasting, like chinese spring rolls. They probably would taste better on an empty stomach.
Fried Salmon and Cheese Maki, “chef’s recommendations” €5.15

Very tiny rolls but pretty yummy with melted cheese inside and very crunchy fried seaweed outside. It’s easy to just pop a bunch in your mouth if there were many.
Lots of soy sauce.

With a little dish of soy sauce accompanying every order, the table soon got a bit crowded!
Toasted Sesame Ice Cream covered with Hot Chocolate Sauce €4.35

Very very strong natural sesame flavor with lots of warm chocolate sauce and even more sesame flavor from the sesame seeds sprinkled on top! I never knew sesame could taste so good in ice cream form!
