A pizzeria and “creative” Italian restaurant located in the middle of the Gaixample neighborhood, nicknamed after being the Gay hotspot for trendy shops, restaurants, bars and clubs in Barcelona’s Eixample district.

Entrance:

The interior is very modern with a black ceiling and floor, red curved walls, white furniture and hanging lights.

During the lunch hours, Iurantia offers a Menu of the Day for a great price of €9.90 including tax. This comes with an appetizer, main course, dessert, and drinks. What a deal!

Warm bread.

Soft and dougy, crisp on the outside, and great without butter or olive oil, just the way the Hungry Chicken likes bread to be!

Appetizers:

Crema de Champiñes- Cream of Mushroom soup.

Chunky and thick, but not so creamy, fatty or heavy feeling. Small bits of mushrooms gives it a nice nutty texture.

Ensalada verde Iurantia con vinagreta de quicos- Iurantia green salad.

Crisp lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, and sweet corn topped with crunchy crushed Doritos– yes, Doritos– and some kind of vinaigrette. The Doritos on the salad were actually quite good. It gave the salad a nutty and cheesy flavor (maybe there were peanuts too).

Mains:

Revoltillo de Rúcula y espàrragos trigueros- Scrambled eggs with rocket and green asparagus.

Light scrambled eggs, chopped up soft asparagus all drizzled in that sweet and salty sauce that I still don’t know.

Brandada de Bacalao con Aceite de Pesto- Puree of Cod with Pesto oil.

A rather small and unfilling dish. Underneath the crunchy bread crisps was a scoop of mostly mashed potatoes with little cod bits. Maybe it was mostly cod, but it tasted like smooth creamy mashed potatoes.

Desserts:

Panna Cotta con culis de frutos rojos- Panna Cotta with red fruit coulis.

2 little (but a good dessert amount) cubes of sweet milk flavored custard topped with caramel sauce and a thick jam that tasted like blueberries and raspberries in sweet syrup.

Macedonia de frutas- Fruit salad.

Fresh oranges, kiwis, apples, and strawberries. I liked the mix of orange and apple flavors.

Nicely presented food for a good price meant clientele that ranged from students to businessmen. If you come too late for lunch– around 3pm– they may be out of the more popular main dishes. I saw several people having only one choice, which was roasted chicken with onions and tomatoes. Iurantia also serves pizzas, pastas, and risottos.
