They claim to be the only Nepalese restaurant in all of Barcelona, even in Spain, but I’m pretty sure there are others, perhaps just not as good or well known. Now, in terms of Nepalese food, I have no idea what it is! So let’s find out!

Entrance:
Himali
Bright restaurant on a quiet street, which reminds me of the entrance to Flash-Flash.

complimentary Papadum
papadum
Crispy, thin, and salty, like the ones in Indian restaurants, almost cheesy like thin cheese crisp crackers (probably just my imagination).

Sabjiko Samosa- vegetable samosa €3
samosa
Very similar to an Indian samosa. Dryish on the inside and slightly sweet, but went well with the mint yogurt (in the background). Sprinkled on top was a salty sulfur tasting powder…

Himalko Ros- Himali special soup, cream of peanuts €4.00
soup
Like a lentil soup, with some pumpkin flavors and crunchy slices of white peanuts.

Tofu Txiau Tarkari- tofu and mushroom curry €7.45 (right)
Sabjiko Tarkari- mixed vegetable curry €6.95 (left)
curries
A very good deal, as each dish comes with naan and rice. Neither of the curries were spicy, but were creamy and sweet. The vegetable curry was especially sweet with cinnamon and nutmeg flavors. The naan was a bit thin but otherwise just like any other Indian naan. You can’t tell from the picture, but the rice is extremely buttery and glossy and looks like plastic!

It seems that Nepalese food is very similar to Indian in choices, but a sweeter and non-spicy variation. Mild and sweet curries (and great pricing!), which are probably popular among the Spanish with an acquired Mediterranean palate, make this little restaurant pretty busy late at nights. Good value and meal made this place my nearby curry spot for a while as well!

total+tax= €23.40 (dinner for 2, including water)

Another photo of the crispy papadum and minty yogurt sauce.
papadum

Lots of yummy fresh naan bread included with the meals.

Sabjiko Tarkari- mixed vegetable curry €6.95
veggie
The sweet and salty dry curry again!

Sabjiko Tofu Tarkari- vegetable and tofu curry €6.95
tofu
Sweet and creamy like a pumpkin soup.

Muglinco Kukhura- roast chicken curry €8.50
chicken
I didn’t get to taste this, as it was chicken, but the curry should be mild like the others.

Ap dahi Sarbat- mango curdshake €3.00
mango lassi
Sounded like a daring choice at first, since we weren’t sure what “curdshake” would be, but it turned out to be like an Indian mango Lassi yogurt drink. This one just tasted like a milky plain yogurt.

Receipt:
6.00 samosa (2)
6.95 sabjiko Tarkari
6.95 sabjiko tofu tarkari
8.50 muglinco kukhura
2.00
2.30
total+tax= €32.70 (dinner for 3) I am not sure what the last 2 prices were, probably for the water and the yogurt drink, but the yogurt drink was 3 euros? A little “discount” perhaps? : )

On this trip, the staff recognized us as recurring customers and treated us especially nice and kept asking if the food was okay. Of course it’s ok or we wouldn’t be returning so often!

Alu dam- potato special €2.50
potatoes
Amazingly, these soft potatoes tasted sweet like muffins and also reminded us of birthday cake candles! It was fun eating these slowly and figuring out what the familiar tastes were.

Alu Gobi Tarkari- potato and cauliflower curry €6.45
curry
Cinnamon sweet and salty like the others.

Receipt:
2.50 alu dam
6.45 alu gobi tarkari
7.45 tofu txiau tarkari
1.00 water
1.30 cola
total+tax= €18.70 (dinner for 2)

Again, I love how the naan and rice come with the curries! Good and cheap food!
