For Cinco de Mayo I decided to go celebrate by eating at a Mexican restaurant (ironic that I’m in Spain isn’t it!).Entrance:

The bar area:

I went early, around 8:30pm,to catch a movie later, and the restaurant was completely empty.
Interior:

It’s all wooden furniture in here like a log cabin. Looks promising…
Nachos €6.50
Guacamole €6.50

Chicken came to join me as he usually does for this holiday!
The nachos on the left was a small plate of dark crunchy chips with a thin layer of melted cheese on top and spicy salsa.
The mushy guacamole was really cold, like it was just taken out of the refrigerator, and it was very, very, overly salty.
2 shots of tequila €4 each
Refried beans burrito €5.50

Small plain tortilla wrapped around a big slop of mashed beans. No rice, or cheese, or anything else, just plain bean mush.
Cheese quesadilla €3.60
Side of rice €2.10

The cheese quesadilla was just another small thin plain tortilla folded in half with a layer of cheese inside, I’m guessing Manchego cheese since it tasted goaty. The rice was very buttery and tasted Asian.
What a sad, depressing Cinco de Mayo!
First of all, the restaurant was absolutely empty, but I don’t blame them, since the Spanish eat so late. Second, the food was way too expensive for what it was. The nachos were few, the guacamole cold and un-fresh, the tequila shots 2x overpriced, the simple burrito and quesadilla probably microwaved (I heard microwave “ding”s coming from the kitchen), goat cheese, non Mexican-y rice, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the beans were canned and microwaved as well. I could have whipped up this meal in 2 minutes too, and for just a few dollars.
When we were given the bill, the waitress had to come back and say that she calculated it wrong, and needed to add on a couple more euros. I didn’t feel like double checking and paid the full 39 euros this skimpy meal supposedly cost. Now, no matter how I calculate the prices, trying to add on a euro or two to each item, it still just doesn’t come out to 39 euros. I would think this place was ok if it was dirt cheap, but it was far from it…
total= €39 (dinner for 2)
